e%20acoustics%20complement%20net%20sampling%20observations%20by%20detecting%20sound-scattering%20layers%20%28SL%29%20of%20organisms%2C%20allowing%20to%20monitor%20the%20MM%20dynamics%20with%20a%20high%20spatio-temporal%20resolution.%20Multifrequency%20analyses%20are%20a%20pertinent%20approach%20to%20better%20integrate%20the%20rich%20diversity%20of%20organisms%20composing%20SLs%20and%20their%20respective%20dynamics.%20However%2C%20analysing%20simultaneously%20emitted%20acoustic%20signals%20with%20distinct%20depth%20ranges%20and%20separating%20spatial%20from%20temporal%20variability%20is%20challenging%20and%20needs%20adapted%20tools%20to%20be%20fully%20exploited.%20This%20study%20examines%20the%20pelagic%20realm%20in%20a%20transition%20zone%20between%20the%20Southern%20Ocean%20and%20the%20subtropical%20Indian%20Ocean%2C%20crossing%20the%20Saint-Paul%20and%20Amsterdam%20islands%27%20natural%20reserve.%20We%20extended%20a%20Multivariate%20Functional%20Principal%20Component%20Analysis%20%28mfPCA%29%20to%20analyse%20the%20joint%20vertical%20variation%20of%20five%20frequencies%20from%20two%20oceanographic%20cruises%20%282016%20and%202022%29%2C%20allowing%20the%20decomposition%20of%20the%20acoustic%20dataset%20into%20orthogonal%20vertical%20modes%20%28VM%29%20of%20variability.%20We%20found%20the%20first%20VM%20to%20be%20linked%20to%20the%20temporal%20variability%20due%20to%20DVM%2C%20while%20the%20following%20majorly%20depict%20patterns%20in%20spatial%20distribution.%20Overall%2C%20from%20the%20subantarctic%20to%20the%20subtropical%20zones%2C%20we%20observed%20%28i%29%20enrichment%20of%20densities%20in%20the%20surface%20layer%20%280-100%20m%29%2C%20%28ii%29%20a%20decrease%20in%20densities%20in%20the%20intermediate%20layer%20during%20the%20daytime%20%28100-300%20m%29%20and%20%28iii%29%20the%20apparition%20of%20an%20intensive%20deep%20scattering%20layer%20on%20the%2038%20kHz.%20We%20explored%20VMs%27%20connection%20with%20in%20-situ%20environmental%20conditions%20by%20clustering%20our%20observations%20into%20three%20distinct%20environmental-acoustic%20regions.%20These%20regions%20were%20compared%20with%20vertically%20integrated%20nautical%20area%20scattering%20coefficient%20distribution%2C%20a%20proxy%20for%20marine%20organisms%27%20biomass.%20Additionally%2C%20we%20analysed%20species%20assemblage%20changes%20from%20complementary%20cruises%20to%20further%20elucidate%20the%20observed%20acoustic%20distribution.%20We%20show%20that%20the%20mfPCA%20method%20is%20promising%20to%20better%20integrate%20the%20pelagic%20horizontal%2C%20vertical%20and%20temporal%20dimensions%20which%20is%20a%20step%20towards%20further%20investigating%20the%20control%20of%20the%20environment%20on%20the%20distribution%20and%20structuring%20of%20pelagic%20communities.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%22MAR%202024%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22English%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1016%5C%2Fj.jmarsys.2023.103951%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%220924-7963%2C%201879-1573%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fwww.webofscience.com%5C%2Fwos%5C%2Fwoscc%5C%2Ffull-record%5C%2FWOS%3A001167978000001%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22MXS8HMWQ%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222024-03-22T08%3A00%3A55Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
